Why do we need a centre ?

Home

The centre will bring together existing facililtes for families and children in Hanslope under one roof.  Care and education will be offered and supported by services working together in an integrated way.  In addition it will also be possible to provide for a wider range of  activities, accommodating a range of needs and extending provision for the community as a whole.
  • The Pre-School Group (ages 2.5 to 4 years), currently meeting in Hanslope Village Hall, needs dedicated facilities suitable for young children, with office space, flexible areas and storage. New, purpose-built facilities are needed to expand services to meet the needs of a growing community, and to meet the government’s expectation of extended opening hours.
  • The After School Club (ages 4 to 11) currently located within Hanslope Primary School, suffers from not having dedicated facilities of its own, sharing space with regular school activities. The club also needs offices, flexible areas and storage in order to properly cater for its young members and staff during term-time and holidays.
  • Hanslope needs a centre that is not only run with and for the benefit of its residents, but one which offers a variety of adult activities and public services, currently only accessible from different locations. Growth plans for Milton Keynes don’t include community facilities that serve the east and west of the city. In addition, a purpose-built centre will allow for more appropriate use of existing facilities in the village.
The thinking behind the standard of facilities and services proposed at Hanslope Children’s Centre is informed by the Government’s ‘Every Child Matters’ and ‘Extended Schools’ initiatives.
